How to become more, when you spent a long time paying attention to your thoughts; Crafting a personality that can thrive in a particular environment it becomes hard to change. You may think that this patter is what can lead to my success in every other situation, but that’s not true. There’s a different world out there that requires different skills and knowledge. It should be obvious to us but all we have to fall back on is our memories of what worked before. It takes focus and intention to craft yourself into someone that can thrive in your current situation. You might have to level up or ironically learn to put less effort.
You have to pay very close attention to what you are actually trying to achieve. What is the goal that really matters for the next two days, or for the next two weeks. Component and systematic thinking is a process that allows you to pick and choose what can help you in the current moment. Yes your knowledge is cumulative, tools that you are adding to your tool box. It how you choose the best tools for your situation that really matters.
The mindset that helps you during rush times at a job will not be the same mindset during slow times. The set of things you focus on before a test will be different that when you living and studying during the semester. You are always at battle with something but every battle needs different weapons.
Story Time
Yasmin worked at the local KFC. She just immigrated to North America she could not find a job as Computer Engineer which is was educated and had work experience. Yasmin wanted a better life for everyone that came after her, less struggle and less of a fight. She had to fight hard in her home country to even get a job. She worked for years but was never able to rise because her employers were always undermining her ability to succeed. No employment laws allowed highly educated people to be paid next nothing. The biggest irony is that moving to North America working at a fast food joint paid her more than the salary she was earning as a Jr Embedded Systems engineer.
What she learned while she working in fast food was that people interacted with her differently because they did not know her background. They did not realize that she was highly educated. She had a goal of focusing on saving enough money to pay for micro credentials that will validate her education or even going back to school at a college to have North American education.
She wrote her thoughts everyday. If she got caught writing during work she would get told by her manager that she should do that during her work day. Her manager even one point pulled the book out of her hands and told her “do that again and I will fire you”. This added more fire in Yasmin’s mind to push herself to get more opportunities.
She started collected new ways of handling the new world she lived in, she realized what she did in school and in her first job was not going to help with the new terrain that was now facing. It was hard for her to cope at times because to get to this point in her life she already worked so hard. It felt like her life was going to go nowhere. The tools that she build did not help her even though she was told the illusion of how she could find success in the new world. But she knew that even though she would have to start over, her limits will only be how far she set it to be. She realized that no matter how educated she was becoming opportunities will not be presented to her just because did what people told her would work.
The first tool she learned was to really choose who she was listening to, she made it a rule that if they did not have the life she wanted she would base her life on their path. For example her manager told that she just work at the KFC long enough that she will be given the opportunity to become a manger herself and then her job security will be set. She would not have to worry about staying alive.
Yasmin acted like she was agreeing built deep down she did not travel all this way to settle with just living. She did not know anybody so thought of ways that she could gain knowledge. The first step was to find some books, Yasmin was never much of a reader before but she was on a mission to create the world that she wanted. She wanted to be free of being control by people that looked down on her. She wanted to become more, there nothing that was going to stop her. She maybe she could build projects that would get her noticed she did have a computer engineering degree after all. Projects that will stand out. Even though she knew a lot about computers she was not aware of the world of north American web culture. She did not understanding how online marketing worked, she became fascinated by the fact that all the gurus online followed systematic rules for every video, including stories, jokes and body language. She started seeing the world was not what she thought. IT WAS AN ILLUSION. IT WAS A COMBINATION of SKILLS THAT SOLD TO PEOPLE THAT WOULD BUY THE PRODUCT! Seems like common sense but this blew her away. How can she get herself out in front of others that will allow her to harness that same kind of illusions. She had to learn more about people. She started seeing everything that she needed to learn in order to gain more success, the success that will set her family up for generations.
