The goal

Sometimes I forget how important goals are, a goal embodies a reality that you want to see. I have learned that you can only go as far as you see and envision. Those constraints are both limiting and motivating at the same time. It is motivating because when you set your goal as something you can actually reach, your mind will fixate on a way to achieve the goal faster, by any means necessary. It is limiting when either your vision is too small or when your vision is too far away there is no path to see it.

Momentum

The simplest of goals that you set for yourself have the ability to take you forward. I write for myself and I write for the people that will value what I have to say. This simple goal of providing a little bit of value everyday, to anyone that has access to connect is a plan that has helped me build momentum. Momentum is more powerful than motivation when you want to develop yourself into someone that can create change. Momentum gives you no choice if you submit to maintaining it. It’s the boulder that keeps on rolling down the hill until it has the most impact. Everyday you wake up with a state of mind, sometimes you will feel extremely motivated to get up and chase your dreams; other days you will wake up feeling like you do not want to keep trying.

Nothing that holds you back

What I’ve realized is that you cannot let these factors influence your decision to keep working and pushing forward. You should not make any event in your life a reason to neglect your important goals. It is also equally as important to never say you “need” something to work on what is important to you. For example if you went to bed and and for some reason you did not sleep as well as you usually do, you will need to be conscious of your thoughts that tell you that you cannot perform the way you usually do and you need to go slower today. This is your mind trying to convince you to lose momentum. I am a firm believer in having minimum goals in a day to keep yourself consistent with goals even if you lack the motivation.

Cultivate a mindset of no matter what, I am going to do what is important to me. The key is to remember that your goal needs to be planned, anything that is just a statement will probably lack the structure to be important and measurable to you. For example if you say that you want to get into a certain field of work and you do not list out steps, you will not have any daily actions that you can take to help you reach that goal. I’ve learned is not necessarily to be right about every step but to create a path with the current knowledge that you have right now. The key I’ve realized is to take steps that you think that will lead you to your goals, then after some time analyze if it helped you get closer.

Learning is part of it

Getting closer does not mean actually going in the right direction, but can also mean realizing that the choices you made are not the best. Your approach will evolve as you keep focused on your goal. If you give up because you are struggling, you will deny yourself the mental fortitude to actually become the person that has attained your goal.

This article is part of my goal to write everyday for an hour and post it everyday. It may not be edited to my standards but the goal is create value and get content out everyday.
