A Dream

I believe that the smart technology is going to be a critical part of the future. Internet of things is going to be so important. A understanding of how a connected world it leads us to imagine what the future will be like.

I’m going to talk a little about the future that I imagine that may probably sound like a Sci-fi movie.

Brief Background

Every since I was a kid, I had a deep fascination with computers and electronics, sounds a typical nerd right? My fascination was derived from the fact that I loved Megaman battle network. It made me think deeply about how technology one day could possibly develop personalities of their own by self creating programs, as a kid I had no access to internet growing up in rural Trinidad. So I had no idea about computer science and programming. Much less about robotics. I used technology in awe but I no understanding of how it all worked. Eventually I moved to Canada when I was twelve and learned more about the internet, unfortunately that led to bad behaviors at first because of my desire for friends. That means constant use of social media. My fascinations laid hidden until about grade 12 when I learned about growth and fixed mindsets. Up until that point I had no idea what I wanted to do with life. At first I was considering going into fashion because I love clothes and dressing up because of the attention it courted. I tried my hand at clothes and realized maybe I liked wearing it more than making it because I did not like the idea of designing for the purpose of trends and not long term sustainability (I did not know much about slow fashion at the time).

I still did not know what I wanted but due to someone pointing out that I was always good with technology, I decided to try out Mechanical Engineering Technology, which would sharpen all the math and science skills that I somewhat neglected because I was too cool for school even though I always loved math and science. Eventually I started increasing my academic prowess. Fortunately Mechanical engineering programs covered courses on electronics and programming. It’s weird that even after falling in love with embedded systems and it still did not dawn on me that maybe a path of Cyber-Physical systems was probably a path for me.

After this I enrolled in a University Program that focused more on advanced engineering and manufacturing that is both the right and wrong choice. The program eventually led me to realize what I want to do with my life. I always thought of myself as an entrepreneur no matter what industry I would focus on. I did not occur to me before enrolling that Additive manufacturing could pave the way to advanced internet of things (IOT) and Industrial internet of things (IIOT). This where a lot of my shaping of my world is coming from, the intersection of Advanced Manufacturing and Cyber Physical Systems. This is a combination of fields that I think could lead to development of a new world order. I think this is the intersection that could lead to new evolution of humans and the state of our civilization. This where the fire burns and this is the path that I will create.

Now to the Future

The world that I see in the future is in my imagination. But I see a world that is now being called the “meta-verse” as being a combination of both the real world and a virtual existence. I could imagine that this combination could be what leads to humans to have immortality, in short term while we create a world where our bodies do not decay. If as a human had your body preserved but your mind is connected to the meta-verse and through that you are connected to the real world and use a cyber-physical body to live in the real world. You may be able to add more years to your life if we were able to keep bodies preserved biologically, using Additive manufacturing to create artificial limbs and organs that could extend the life of a human. Combination of these technologies could lead to a world of cyber-physical humanoids or humans living though technology but in more organic fashion rather than looking at screens. This world that I am seeing in my mind requires a lot of technological advancement but maybe not as far off as we think if utilizing many different industries.

A crazy thought came to me the other day about how much technology has been stunted in development because of ethics, this is especially important in world of Biomedical engineering and Biology in general. I’m not saying by any means that we should or should not cross ethical boundaries. But it fun to ponder a world where these boundaries did not exist. Imagine if we learned that humans biology could be spliced the way advanced manufacturing and torn apart and tested to determine their mechanical properties and the improvements it could make in overall strength and durability of the material. Imagine we could splice human DNA with animals that may be more or less temperature sensitive. These Chimeras are a great thought experiment but what if we could actually create these things from the study of advanced manufacturing and creating new technology that enable such discovering in more ethical way. I see this intersection as a way to open up those possibilities.

I think I am going to spend more time thinking about these topics and learning more about the science, technology and constraints of creating that world. There is a lot more on my mind but I just hit my 1 hour goal of writing. I have a lot more to do with my day!

This article is part of my goal to write everyday for an hour and post it everyday. It may not be edited to my standards but the goal is create value and get content out everyday.
