The Social Media Resume and Selling Yourself

The Social Media Resume and Selling Yourself

The Social Resume

The average person derives comfort from determining through social media, if people are a good fit for their lives. I find it weird rather than going on an actual date people want to date you before they date you. I used to get multiple dates a week from adding the girls I approached in real life on social media. I even got dates with girls I never even met.

Pre-Selection- A concept that people choose you when they have confirmation that other people take you seriously. In previous generations this happened by interacting with people in your community. Hence building a strong network of people that can validate your appeal . That’s why in previously the common individual desired strongly to be seen on television. They could return to their community and be acknowledged as someone of value, even if it was short lived.

These days just having a small following of about 100-200 people that like your content or your face you can achieve that same validation. I want to go deeper than that. I came to the realization people need a middle man to allow them to make that choice because of the shear amount of options available. I understand it but I don’t embrace it.

Sell Yourself

I’ve concluded that social media is just about marketing, and not primarily designed to connect individuals. The people that do end up connecting for form meaningful connections are most often already within the same circle. There are exceptions to the rules of course but it is definitely not the rule.

What Is it for then, well on a grander scale it is made for companies to advertising their products to the common people while given those said common people a way to feel like the new kings of the day(Most of us are still peasants, don’t let people think that of you though). Rather than have the goal of connecting to more individuals people proceed to try and sell themselves like they’re some kind of product. Ultimately trying to get confirmation that they’re not too bad. Reality is most of these people that have this back and forth on a daily basis will never reach a level beyond an average human that’s another cog in the gear train.

Most of these people are not bad, but what they don’t understand is that the dynamics of social media places people in a thought process that is not conclusive for success. You’re fighting for average. The people that succeed on social media are the ones that see it for what it is and aim to capitalize on the market.

The truth is to have high level success on social media one just has to apply intermediate level marketing theory.

If you’re anything like me, you’ll soon realize the average people of the generation actually take this as their way of life. People have become so scared of actually interacting with others, they no problem having a false confidence mask on behind the screen, but they’ll never try to do the things they do behind the screen in person, or even take huge risks online to have different outcomes.
